In 1770 The colonist didn't like the British soldiers living in homes and towns. The colonist made fun of the soldiers red coats. The called them names like "lobster back."
On March 5,1770 a soldier was standing guard and a crowd of colonist started to throw stones and snowballs at the soldier Captain Thomas Preston and7 other solders rushed to the soldiers side. They loaded their muskets for protection.
Nobody exactly knows whet happened next. They say Captain Preston said not to fire but one soldier thought he heard "fire" so he shot his gun into the crowd. Then the crowd started to come toward the soldiers and they panicked and shot. After the incident 5 people lay dead or dying. 6 more were wounded. The colonist called the incident the Boston Massacre.
